Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Commercial Transportation Law of the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that every rail carrier operating in this State transporting firearms or firearm ammunition through a municipality with a population of more than 1,000,000 inhabitants shall notify the local municipal law enforcement agency at least 24 hours prior to transporting the firearms or firearm ammunition through the municipality.

625 ILCS 5/18c-7404.5 new

Amends the Illinois Commercial Transportation Law of the Illinois Vehicle Code. 1 AN ACT concerning transportation.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 18c-7404.5 as follows:
6 (625 ILCS 5/18c-7404.5 new)
7 Sec. 18c-7404.5. Transportation of firearms; firearm
8ammunition. Every rail carrier operating in this State
9transporting firearms or firearm ammunition through a
10municipality with a population of more than 1,000,000
11inhabitants shall notify the local municipal law enforcement
12agency at least 24 hours prior to transporting the firearms or
13firearm ammunition through the municipality.
14 For purposes of this Section, "firearm" and "firearm
15ammunition" have the meanings ascribed to those terms in the
16Firearm Owners Identification Card Act.
