1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by
5changing Section 1 as follows:
6 (50 ILCS 705/1) (from Ch. 85, par. 501)
7 Sec. 1. It is hereby declared as a matter of legislative
8determination that that in order to promote and protect
9citizen health, safety and welfare, it is necessary and in the
10public interest to provide for the creation of the Illinois
11Law Enforcement Training Standards Board for the purpose of
12encouraging and aiding municipalities, counties, park
13districts, State controlled universities, colleges, and public
14community colleges, and other local governmental agencies of
15this State and participating State agencies in their efforts
16to raise the level of law enforcement by upgrading and
17maintaining a high level of training and standards for law
18enforcement executives and officers, county corrections
19officers, sheriffs, and law enforcement support personnel
20under this Act. It is declared to be the responsibility of the
21board to ensure the required participation of the pertinent
22local governmental units in the programs established under
23this Act, to encourage the voluntary participation of other

1local governmental units and participating State agencies, to
2set standards, develop and provide quality training and
3education, and to aid in the establishment of adequate
4training facilities.
