Bill Title: Amends the Counties Code. Provides that a sheriff shall enter upon the duties of his or her office on the December 1 following his or her election (rather than on the first day in the month of December following his or her election on which the office of the sheriff is required, by statute or by action of the county board, to be open).

AN ACT concerning local government.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing
Section 3-6002 as follows:
(55 ILCS 5/3-6002) (from Ch. 34, par. 3-6002)
Sec. 3-6002. Commencement of duties. The sheriff shall
enter upon the duties of his or her office on the first day in
the month of December 1 following his or her election on which
the office of the sheriff is required, by statute or by action
of the county board, to be open.
