HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives condemn in the strongest possible terms the
4decision of the Illinois Secretary of State to allow the
5Snaketivity display to remain in the Capitol rotunda during the
6Christmas and Hannukkah seasons; and
7 WHEREAS, We respect and understand the rights of free
8speech and equal access that are guaranteed under the
9Constitution of the United States, however, the fact that the
10Snaketivity display is considered to be a religious display on
11par with the nativity scene and menorah is directly
12contradicted by the Satanic Temple's description of itself as a
13non-theistic organization; and
14 WHEREAS, The Satanic display is nothing more than a
15publicity stunt meant to cause outrage and division; therefore,
16be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19condemn in the strongest possible terms the decision by the
20Secretary of State to allow the Satanic display to remain in
21the Capitol rotunda, and we urge the Secretary of State to
22reject the Satanic display in the future; and be it further
