HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly wish
3to congratulate McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren on the
4occasion of his retirement on November 30, 2014, after more
5than 47 years of service in the law enforcement field; and
6 WHEREAS, Keith Nygren is a graduate of Northern Illinois
7University and the FBI National Academy; and
8 WHEREAS, Keith Nygren began his career in DeKalb County in
91967; he left DeKalb County in 1971 and began a 26-year career
10with the Crystal Lake Police Department, where he worked his
11way up through the ranks and retired as Chief of Police in
121997; and
13 WHEREAS, Keith Nygren was appointed Sheriff of McHenry
14County on April 15, 1997; he was then elected to be Sheriff of
15McHenry County on November 3, 1998 and was sworn into office on
16December 1, 1998; and
17 WHEREAS, The McHenry County Sheriff's Office serves a
18population of approximately 300,000 people and the Department
19maintains a state-of-the-art corrections facility; with a
20budget of approximately $35 million and a staff of more than
21400 employees, the Sheriff's Office is committed to maintaining

1optimum standards and providing the citizens of McHenry County
2with a strong and well-prepared law enforcement agency; and
3 WHEREAS, During Keith Nygren's tenure as Sheriff in 2013,
4his office attained the "Triple Crown" status by obtaining
5simultaneous accreditation through the Commission on the
6Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, the Commission on
7Accreditation for Corrections of the American Correctional
8Association's Commission, and the National Commission on
9Correctional Healthcare; McHenry County is only the 3rd
10Sheriff's Office in the State of Illinois to attain this
11prestigious status; and
12 WHEREAS, Keith Nygren has served as McHenry County Sheriff
13for more than 17 years and has vastly improved the Sheriff's
14Office during his time in office; and
15 WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Keith Nygren will have been
16the longest-serving Sheriff in McHenry County history; and
17 WHEREAS, A celebration will be held in honor of Keith
18Nygren's retirement on September 25, 2014; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we thank McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren for his many years

1of service to the people of McHenry County and congratulate him
2on this occasion of his retirement; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to Sheriff Keith Nygren as an expression of our
5congratulations and appreciation.
