2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives
wish to congratulate the Little Village | ||||||
4 | Chamber of Commerce on
receiving the United States Hispanic | ||||||
5 | Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Chamber
of the Year Award during | ||||||
6 | the 2018 USHCC National Convention in
Philadelphia, | ||||||
7 | Pennsylvania; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Little Village is a thriving commercial area on
| ||||||
9 | Chicago's West Side with more than 1,000 businesses that offer | ||||||
10 | a
vast array of goods and services, in addition to creating | ||||||
11 | jobs
for thousands of residents; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Little Village is home to the largest Mexican
| ||||||
13 | community in the midwest, a fact reflected by the many unique
| ||||||
14 | Mexican specialty products available from merchants in the | ||||||
15 | area; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, The Little Village Chamber of Commerce has
| ||||||
17 | represented the interests of local businesses for over 30
| ||||||
18 | years; its mission is to promote and support the growth
and | ||||||
19 | success of businesses in Little Village and to leverage
the | ||||||
20 | community's unique cultural identity to generate new
| ||||||
21 | opportunities; and

1 | WHEREAS, The Little Village Chamber of Commerce works | ||||||
2 | closely with business and community
leaders, government | ||||||
3 | agencies, law enforcement, corporate
partners, elected | ||||||
4 | officials, and others to address the issues
that affect the | ||||||
5 | community and the commercial area; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, In 2017, the Little Village Chamber of Commerce
| ||||||
7 | participated in the USHCC Local Chamber Grant Program to fund | ||||||
8 | an
entrepreneurship program known as Juntos Emprendemos, which
| ||||||
9 | helped 75 small businesses in Chicago; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Because of the Little Village Chamber of | ||||||
11 | Commerce's commitment to its community,
small businesses | ||||||
12 | benefit from access to capital,
information, and networks in | ||||||
13 | order to thrive and expand their
businesses; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
15 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
16 | congratulate the dedication and leadership of the Little | ||||||
17 | Village Chamber of Commerce on receiving the United States | ||||||
18 | Chamber of Commerce Chamber of the Year Award during the 2018 | ||||||
19 | USHCC National Convention; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That the Little Village Chamber of Commerce be | ||||||
21 | recognized
for their major accomplishments in the areas of | ||||||
22 | business
economic development, procurement, and access to |

including their commitment to the Hispanic business | ||||||

and be it further

3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
