| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Chicago Marines | ||||||
| 4 | Foundation on its success in supporting veterans in the | ||||||
| 5 | Chicagoland area and beyond; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Established in 2013, the Chicago Marines | ||||||
| 7 | Foundation is a group of veteran, retired, and reserve Marines | ||||||
| 8 | whose mission is to help Marines and other veterans in need by | ||||||
| 9 | creating a community that provides a support network, by | ||||||
| 10 | raising awareness of veterans' issues, and by funding | ||||||
| 11 | established and vetted veterans' charities; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The Marine Corps has a long and distinguished | ||||||
| 13 | history and prides itself on its traditions; the Marine Corps | ||||||
| 14 | was founded at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on | ||||||
| 15 | November 10, 1775, and it is one of the most important dates in | ||||||
| 16 | its long and rich history; the birthday of the Marine Corps has | ||||||
| 17 | been celebrated by Marines around the world in embassies, on | ||||||
| 18 | fire bases, in ballrooms, and on battlefields; this celebration | ||||||
| 19 | is a time for Marines, veterans and civilians to come together, | ||||||
| 20 | re-connect, reflect on service, and continue to plan how to | ||||||
| 21 | support our veterans and this great nation; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, The Chicago Marines Foundation's signature event | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | is a celebration of the Marine Corps birthday; now in its fifth | ||||||
| 2 | year, the celebration is known as the Best Birthday Party in | ||||||
| 3 | Chicago and creates camaraderie and esprit de corps and serves | ||||||
| 4 | as a fundraising platform; over the last four years, the | ||||||
| 5 | foundation has raised over $65,000 for charities that support | ||||||
| 6 | veteran initiatives; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 8 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 9 | congratulate the Chicago Marines Foundation on its success, and | ||||||
| 10 | we commend its service to veterans in the Chicagoland area, the | ||||||
| 11 | State of Illinois and our nation; and be it further
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 13 | presented to the Chicago Marines Foundation as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 14 | esteem and respect.
