| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, On May 25, 2012, the President of the United | ||||||
| 3 | States of America proclaimed May 28, 2012 through November 11, | ||||||
| 4 | 2025 as the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the | ||||||
| 5 | Vietnam War; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Prairie State College has partnered with the | ||||||
| 7 | United States of America Vietnam War 50th Anniversary | ||||||
| 8 | Commemoration, established by Congress, to "thank and honor | ||||||
| 9 | veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held | ||||||
| 10 | as prisoners of war (POW) or listed as missing in action (MIA), | ||||||
| 11 | for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States | ||||||
| 12 | and to thank and honor the families of these veterans"; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, It is important to honor the men and women who | ||||||
| 14 | survived and the 58,260 men and women who gave their lives, | ||||||
| 15 | seven of whom were from Homewood, Matteson, and Richton Park; | ||||||
| 16 | and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, The citizens of Homewood, Matteson, and Richton | ||||||
| 18 | Park must never forget the pain and suffering that lingers | ||||||
| 19 | today for the men and women who fought with honor and | ||||||
| 20 | distinction in the name of freedom and democracy for all; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois renews its commitment to | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | those who answered the country's call to service in Vietnam and | ||||||
| 2 | their families; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Throughout this commemoration, we will strive to | ||||||
| 4 | live up to their example by showing our Vietnam veterans, their | ||||||
| 5 | families, and all of the men and women who have served our | ||||||
| 6 | country the fullest respect and support of a grateful State and | ||||||
| 7 | nation; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The freedoms and liberties we are blessed to enjoy | ||||||
| 9 | are a direct result of their courage, devotion, and sacrifice, | ||||||
| 10 | and we draw inspiration and pride from their example; | ||||||
| 11 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 13 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 14 | honor the Village of Homewood, the Village of Matteson, and the | ||||||
| 15 | Village of Richton Park's Vietnam Veterans
on this | ||||||
| 16 | commemorative event; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the Village of Homewood, the Village of Matteson, | ||||||
| 19 | and the Village of Richton Park as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 20 | esteem.
