| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. David Asbery on | ||||||
| 4 | receiving the 2018 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from the | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois Rural Health Association; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across | ||||||
| 7 | our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural | ||||||
| 8 | settings, with the lack of obstetricians putting women at an | ||||||
| 9 | especially high risk; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Before pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Asbery | ||||||
| 11 | served our nation as a United States Marine from 1987 to 1989; | ||||||
| 12 | and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery graduated from the University of | ||||||
| 14 | Kentucky College of Medicine in 1996; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery completed his residency in Obstetrics | ||||||
| 16 | and Gynecology in 2000 at the New Hanover Regional Medical | ||||||
| 17 | Center in Wilmington, North Carolina; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery was board certified by the American | ||||||
| 19 | College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2002; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery started practicing in Mt. Vernon in | ||||||
| 2 | 2007 with St. Mary's Good Samaritan Medical Group; he then | ||||||
| 3 | opened his own practice, Asbery & Associates OB-GYN, LLC in | ||||||
| 4 | 2010; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery has expanded his practice to include | ||||||
| 6 | two associate physicians, two physician assistants, one | ||||||
| 7 | advanced practice nurse, two certified nurse midwives, and 32 | ||||||
| 8 | additional staff members; he has clinics in Centralia, | ||||||
| 9 | McLeansboro, Mt. Vernon, and Nashville; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery has filled a tremendous void by his | ||||||
| 11 | expansion of obstetric care in the area so local women no | ||||||
| 12 | longer have to travel extensively to seek such care; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery's highly specialized training as a | ||||||
| 14 | certified Da Vinci Surgeon ensures his patient are getting | ||||||
| 15 | state-of-the-art care close to home; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery is also very devoted to his community; | ||||||
| 17 | specifically, he supports small business development, serves | ||||||
| 18 | on the Rend Lake Community College Board, and helps with | ||||||
| 19 | fundraising for local school extracurricular programs; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, In his "free time", Dr. Asbery practices his | ||||||
| 21 | aviation skills, flying as well as traveling, with his wife, | ||||||

| 1 | Kathy, and their beloved clan, which includes Kadin, Cullen, | ||||||
| 2 | Liam, and Elliana; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 4 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 5 | congratulate Dr. David Asbery on receiving the 2018 Rural | ||||||
| 6 | Physician of Excellence Award, and we commend his selfless | ||||||
| 7 | service and dedication to his patients and acknowledge the | ||||||
| 8 | impact he has made improving healthcare delivery for women and | ||||||
| 9 | babies in southern Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 11 | presented to Dr Asbery as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
