HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Proper dental care is a vital health concern that
3is overlooked by or unavailable to many Americans; a lack of
4routine oral health care can lead to serious consequences,
5including severe tooth decay, gum disease, and potentially
6deadly infections; unchecked dental problems can also increase
7the risk of serious and chronic health conditions, such as
8diabetes and heart disease; and
9 WHEREAS, In June of 2012, United States Senator Bernie
10Sanders (VT) introduced the Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of
112012 into the Senate; and
12 WHEREAS, The Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012 seeks
13to end the oral health crisis in America by expanding coverage,
14creating new access points, enhancing the workforce, improving
15education, and funding new research; the Act would extend
16comprehensive dental health insurance to millions of Americans
17who do not have coverage today, while increasing both the
18number of places that would accept such coverage and the number
19of qualified oral health care professionals in communities with
20the greatest need for them; and
21 WHEREAS, The Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012 would
22also address the need to educate current and future oral health

1care providers to better serve vulnerable populations and to
2integrate oral health care into overall health care, as well as
3authorize greater amounts of funding for research on prevention
4and disease management techniques to improve oral health care
5delivery and the oral health status of the nation; and
6 WHEREAS, The passage of the Comprehensive Dental Reform Act
7of 2012 would be a step in the proper direction of ensuring
8that all Americans can receive the quality, consistent health
9care that they deserve; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we urge the President and Congress to pass H. 3272, the
13Comprehensive Dental Reform Act of 2012; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15delivered to the Speaker and Minority Leader of the United
16States House of Representatives, the Majority and Minority
17Leaders of the United States Senate, and the President of the
18United States.
