HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Hiawatha Elementary School
4on being invited to attend the 10th Annual Our American Voice
5Summit in Springfield to share their community project with
6other schools from across the State, meet legislators, and tour
7the Capitol; and
8 WHEREAS, Our American Voice begins with the fundamentals of
9democracy - how government works - and lessons of change
10distilled from the American Revolution to the civil rights
11movement and beyond; it takes a critical additional step by
12teaching students how to apply these lessons to their local
13communities, form vigorous partnerships with other
14organizations, and create living projects and campaigns that
15generate real results; and
16 WHEREAS, Hiawatha Elementary School's project consisted of
17creating a student council for all students to have a voice;
18and
19 WHEREAS, Participating in Our American Voice and visiting
20the Capitol is a memorable learning experience that teaches
21students the fundamentals of American democracy and helps them
22work to create positive change in their community; therefore,

2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4recognize Hiawatha Elementary School on being invited to attend
5the 10th Annual Our American Voice Summit in Springfield to
6share their community project; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to Hiawatha Elementary School as a symbol of our
9respect and esteem.
