HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives wish to recognize the Theta Rho Omega Chapter
of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated on 50 years of
service and sisterhood and mark their anniversary on November
17, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Theta Rho Omega was the first chapter chartered in
the south suburbs of Chicago in 1968 in the city of Markham;
and
WHEREAS, Theta Rho Omega is committed to implementing the
five basic tenets of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority that have
remained unchanged since the sorority's inception over 110
years ago: to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and
ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among
college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning
girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to
maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of
"Service to All Mankind"; and
WHEREAS, Theta Rho Omega has provided 50 years of community
service programs which have enhanced the quality of life for
citizens of all ages in the southern suburbs, impacting black
families and the areas of education, health, economic

development, the arts, and global concerns; and
WHEREAS, Theta Rho Omega has continually promoted,
supported, and encouraged high scholastic achievement through
mentoring and scholarship opportunities; over $200,000 in
scholarships to deserving high school students have been
awarded; and
WHEREAS, Just like their sisters in the 1,012 chapters of
the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority around the globe, the dynamic
women of the Theta Rho Omega Chapter have worked to transform
their communities and improve our State; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
recognize the Theta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Incorporated on 50 years of service and sisterhood,
and we wish them many more years of success; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to Theta Rho Omega as a symbol of our respect and
esteem.
