| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate St. John's Evangelical | ||||||
| 4 | Lutheran Church of Bloomington on the occasion of its 150th | ||||||
| 5 | anniversary; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, In August 1872, Swedish immigrants moved to | ||||||
| 7 | Bloomington to work in the coal mines; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, At the invitation of the Swedish immigrant | ||||||
| 9 | families, Dr. T. N. Hasselquist, a professor at Augustana | ||||||
| 10 | College, assisted in the official formation of what was then | ||||||
| 11 | called the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bloomington | ||||||
| 12 | on December 8, 1872; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, In the years that followed, the small band of | ||||||
| 14 | Christians grew alongside the impact of their ministry to the | ||||||
| 15 | Bloomington-Normal area and the world; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Today, the church is known as St. John's | ||||||
| 17 | Evangelical Lutheran Church; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrates | ||||||
| 19 | its rich 150-year history as it seeks to continue blessing | ||||||
| 20 | others by living its values to worship, love, give, and grow as | ||||||

| 1 | a community of believers; therefore, be it

| 2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 3 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 4 | we congratulate St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of | ||||||
| 5 | Bloomington on its 150 years, and we wish the church continued | ||||||
| 6 | success; and be it further
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 8 | presented to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church as an | ||||||
| 9 | expression of our esteem and respect.
