HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of retired
4Officer Scott Kleina, Badge number 80, who passed away on
5August 11, 2022; and
6 WHEREAS, Officer Scott Kleina began his law enforcement
7career with the Blue Island Police Department; he then served
8the residents and businesses of Alsip for 28 years with the
9Alsip Police Department; and
10 WHEREAS, Office Scott Kleina was awarded several
11commendations for bravery throughout his career; and
12 WHEREAS, Officer Scott Kleina loved his wife, Jeri Lynn,
13his two daughters, Becky and Sydney, and his two sons, Daniel
14and William; and
15 WHEREAS, Officer Scott Kleina participated in a variety of
16community activities, including many Alsip Fraternal Order of
17Police Lodge 31 events; he was a frequent attendee at
18performances by his favorite local band, "Six 2 Six", which
19consisted of fellow Alsip police officers; and
20 WHEREAS, Officer Scott Kleina took it upon himself to

1document and retain historical information and photographs of
2the Alsip Police Department, including maintaining the "Alsip
3Police Back in the Day" social media page; and
4 WHEREAS, Officer Scott Kleina liked playing poker and was
5a legendary organizer of annual block parties that celebrated
6the 4th of July; during his retirement, he enjoyed spending
7time with his kids, shooting hoops, tending to his vegetable
8garden, and building bonfires near the pool; his holiday yard
9decorations were well known in the neighborhood; and
10 WHEREAS, Everyone who has ever known Officer Scott Kleina
11would tell you it seemed as if he never had a bad day, as he
12always made everyone else's day a little brighter; and
13 WHEREAS, Officer Scott Kleina was preceded in death by his
14parents; his sister, Sharon (Donald) Gurgel; his
15father-in-law, Jerome Marzec; and his close friend, Ray
16Bosley; and
17 WHEREAS, Officer Scott Kleina is survived by his wife; his
18children, Becky, Sydney, Danny, and Billy Kleina; his sister,
19Sheila (James) Elza; his brother, Keith (Cheryl) Kleina; his
20nieces and nephews; his siblings-in-law, Chris (Marzec) and
21Bryan McLawhorn; his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Pormba; and his
22close friends, Teo Vargas, and Jim Brongiel; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of retired Officer Scott Kleina, Badge
4number 80, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
5friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Officer Scott Kleina as an
8expression of our deepest sympathy.
