| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize DuPage County on its
| ||||||
| 4 | successful efforts to streamline county government; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, DuPage County's work to consolidate certain | ||||||
| 6 | government responsibilities and eliminate
others, where | ||||||
| 7 | possible, has received national attention; it was honored with | ||||||
| 8 | the Achievement Award
from the National Association of Counties | ||||||
| 9 | for the initiative; the program was enacted in 2012 and has
| ||||||
| 10 | saved a projected $80 million in taxpayer funds; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, DuPage County's efforts began with the passage of | ||||||
| 12 | Senate Bill 494 in the 98th General
Assembly; SB 494 permitted | ||||||
| 13 | the county to dissolve units of local government whose | ||||||
| 14 | governing body is
appointed by the county board Chairman or | ||||||
| 15 | county executive; at the start, DuPage County had more
than 400 | ||||||
| 16 | governmental entities responsible for over $300 million in | ||||||
| 17 | taxpayer funds; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin was a | ||||||
| 19 | leading participant in the creation of the
Transform Illinois | ||||||
| 20 | Coalition in 2014, which works to facilitate better coordinated | ||||||
| 21 | research, advocacy,
legislative policy implementation, and to | ||||||
| 22 | promote activities that will improve the effectiveness of
| ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | government service delivery; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Transform Illinois includes membership of | ||||||
| 3 | individual lawmakers, research organizations,
government | ||||||
| 4 | officials, and advocacy groups; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Chairman Cronin is determined to continue in the | ||||||
| 6 | effort to streamline DuPage county
government and plans on | ||||||
| 7 | combining or eliminating additional governmental entities | ||||||
| 8 | where
possible; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 10 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 11 | recognize DuPage County on its successful efforts to streamline | ||||||
| 12 | county
government; and be it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to DuPage County Board Chairman Dan
Cronin as an | ||||||
| 15 | expression of our esteem and respect.
