| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to hear
of the passing of James J. | ||||||
| 4 | Elson, Sr. of Canton and wish to honor his life and pay tribute | ||||||
| 5 | to this
very special man; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. was born in Pontiac on August 5, | ||||||
| 7 | 1931 to Howard and Bernadine (nee Twomey) Elson; he graduated | ||||||
| 8 | from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of
Science from | ||||||
| 9 | the College of Agriculture and a Juris Doctorate from the | ||||||
| 10 | College of Law; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr., after graduating from the | ||||||
| 12 | College of Law, served 3 years
of active duty as a judge | ||||||
| 13 | advocate (Captain) in the United States Air Force; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. began practicing law in Canton | ||||||
| 15 | after his release from service,
which he continued to do until | ||||||
| 16 | his retirement in 2009; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr.'s hard work led to a long career | ||||||
| 18 | in law, which included being
named a laureate of the Illinois | ||||||
| 19 | Academy of Lawyers in 2001, being a member of the Illinois | ||||||
| 20 | State Bar
Association Board of Governors for 8 years, and being | ||||||
| 21 | a member of the Illinois State Bar
Association Assembly for 13 | ||||||

| 1 | years; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. was deeply involved in his | ||||||
| 3 | community as a Trustee of the
Parlin-Ingersoll Public Library | ||||||
| 4 | for 32 years and as President of the Canton Area Chamber of
| ||||||
| 5 | Commerce in 1970; he was named Citizen of the Year in 1985; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. will leave a legacy of | ||||||
| 7 | outstanding community service to the
City of Canton through all | ||||||
| 8 | that he has done; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, James Elson, Sr. is survived by his wife, Nancy | ||||||
| 10 | Elson; his 2 daughters, Marygrace
Elson and Joan Bernadine | ||||||
| 11 | Moore; his 3 sons, James J. Elson, Jr., Stephen P. Elson, and | ||||||
| 12 | John C. Elson;
and his 2 sisters, Mary Anne Elson and Carol | ||||||
| 13 | Abell; he has 12 grandchildren
and a great-grandchild; | ||||||
| 14 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | mourn the passing of James J. Elson, Sr., and
extend our | ||||||
| 18 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all of those | ||||||
| 19 | who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the family of James
Elson, Sr. as an expression of | ||||||
