2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Tancene | ||||||
4 | B. "Tan" Craig Alexander, who passed away on May 29, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Tan Alexander was born to Clarence and Vermell | ||||||
6 | Craig in Queens, New York on June 13, 1946; she attended New | ||||||
7 | York Public Schools and graduated from Flushing High School in | ||||||
8 | 1965; she married Richard on October 13, 1967, and they had one | ||||||
9 | daughter, Tawny; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Tan Alexander worked for the Alberto-Culver | ||||||
11 | Company before starting her more than 20-year career at the | ||||||
12 | McDonald's Corporation; during her tenure, she took classes at | ||||||
13 | Triton College to develop her skills, met many dear friends, | ||||||
14 | and earned several awards, including the President's Award for | ||||||
15 | her efficiency and dedication for a job well done; she retired | ||||||
16 | in 1996; and

17 | WHEREAS, Tan Alexander enjoyed helping others; she | ||||||
18 | volunteered at the Chicago Food Depository and also worked | ||||||
19 | with those in need at the family shelter sponsored by the | ||||||
20 | Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation on the west side of | ||||||
21 | Chicago; and

1 | WHEREAS, Tan Alexander was known for being a planner and | ||||||
2 | for always being prepared, regardless of the occasion or | ||||||
3 | situation; she enjoyed listening to music and attending jazz | ||||||
4 | concerts, especially Latin concerts; she liked watching | ||||||
5 | science fiction and scary movies, enjoying the more ridiculous | ||||||
6 | films most of all; she loved spending time with her family and | ||||||
7 | her sister Carol at her favorite place, Myrtle Beach; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Tan Alexander was preceded in death by her | ||||||
9 | parents and two of her siblings, Jodie and Clarence Jr.; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Tan Alexander is survived by her husband of 54 | ||||||
11 | years, Richard; her daughter, Tawny Smith; her grandson, | ||||||
12 | Jaylen Smith; Richard's son, Scott (Princilla), and | ||||||
13 | grandchildren, Quinton, Akiya, and Stephyn; her sisters, Carol | ||||||
14 | (the late Tony) and Pamela; her brother, Cameron; her | ||||||
15 | brothers-in-law, Jimmie (Lou) and Rickey; her sisters-in-law, | ||||||
16 | Joan (the late Clarence), Carol Jean, and Debra (Eric); her | ||||||
17 | special granddaughter, Brittany Qahhaar; and a host of nieces, | ||||||
18 | nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we mourn the passing of Tancene B. "Tan" Craig Alexander and | ||||||
22 | extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all | ||||||
23 | who knew and loved her; and be it further

1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
2 | presented to the family of Tan Alexander as an expression of | ||||||
3 | our deepest sympathy.
