2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Pleasant Plains High | ||||||
4 | School girls basketball team for winning the 2020 Class 2A | ||||||
5 | State Championship on February 29; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Competing against a two-time defending state | ||||||
7 | champion, the Cardinals represented the Sangamo Conference at | ||||||
8 | Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University, where | ||||||
9 | they handed the Commandos of Chicago Marshall a loss by a score | ||||||
10 | of 43-37; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The Pleasant Plains Cardinals finished the season | ||||||
12 | with a record of 28 wins and 3 losses; en route to the | ||||||
13 | championship, Pleasant Plains won six tournament games against | ||||||
14 | Waverly, Auburn, Breese Central, Breese-Mater Dei, Quincy | ||||||
15 | Notre Dame, and Port Byron-Riverdale by holding each opponent | ||||||
16 | to 40 points or less; and

17 | WHEREAS, A defensive powerhouse, Pleasant Plains only | ||||||
18 | trailed for little over a minute at the start of the game when | ||||||
19 | Marshall opened with a three point lead; the Cardinals | ||||||
20 | responded with a six point run and never looked back; and

21 | WHEREAS, Though the leading seniors of this state champion |

1 | Cardinals team previously won an IESA Championship four years | ||||||
2 | ago, the Pleasant Plains girls basketball team won the first | ||||||
3 | state championship in program history, beating the two-time | ||||||
4 | defending state champion Commandos of Chicago Marshall; and

5 | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Head Coach TJ Fraase, the | ||||||
6 | Pleasant Plains High School girls basketball roster included | ||||||
7 | Ali Fraase, Heidi Hergenrother, Caroline Jachino, Anna | ||||||
8 | Kanllakan, Macy Kanllakan, Emily Long, Teagan Morley, Addy | ||||||
9 | Skeeters, Asya Smith, Macy Ward, and Sammy Willis; therefore, | ||||||
