1		HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2		WHEREAS, In 2015, an estimated 48,960 people will be
3		diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States; 40,560
4		of these people will die from the disease; and
5		WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers;
6		it is currently the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the
7		United States and is projected to become the second by 2020;
8		and
9		WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is the only major cancer with a
10		5-year relative survival rate in the single digits at just 7%;
11		and
12		WHEREAS, When symptoms of pancreatic cancer present
13		themselves, it is generally late stage; 73% of pancreatic
14		cancer patients die within the first year of their diagnosis,
15		while 93% of pancreatic cancer patients die within the first 5
16		years; and
17		WHEREAS, Approximately 1,640 deaths from pancreatic cancer
18		will occur in Illinois in 2015; and
19		WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is the seventh most common cause
20		of cancer-related death in men and women across the world;

1		there will be an estimated 367,000 new pancreatic cancer cases
2		diagnosed globally in 2015; and
3		WHEREAS, The good health and well-being of the residents of
4		State of Illinois are enhanced as a direct result of increased
5		awareness about pancreatic cancer and research into early
6		detection, causes, and effective treatments; therefore, be it
7		RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8		NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
9		SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate November 13, 2015
10		as World Pancreatic Cancer Day in the State of Illinois in
11		recognition of this disease and its effects on the citizens of
12		this State.
