| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, In November of 1972, superintendents from Lake | ||||||
| 3 | County Schools met to discuss the need for a new vocational | ||||||
| 4 | center; a referendum was held and passed in December of 1973
| ||||||
| 5 | and groundbreaking began on July 10, 1975; on September 1, | ||||||
| 6 | 1977, 33 buses from
19 participating high schools transported | ||||||
| 7 | 1,230 students to the Lake County Area
Vocational Center for | ||||||
| 8 | the first day of classes; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Lake County High Schools Technology Campus, known | ||||||
| 10 | as the Tech Campus, is an extension of many area high schools | ||||||
| 11 | designed for high school
students to attend classes in a | ||||||
| 12 | specific career training program; the Tech Campus is regarded
| ||||||
| 13 | as one of the best career and technical education training | ||||||
| 14 | facilities in the midwest with a highly
qualified staff | ||||||
| 15 | dedicated to excellence in career and technical education; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, With 22 member high schools throughout Lake and | ||||||
| 17 | McHenry Counties,
representing nearly 1,600 high school | ||||||
| 18 | students, the campus has one of the largest career
technical | ||||||
| 19 | secondary educational systems in the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The Tech Campus experience provides an | ||||||
| 21 | educational environment that supports
and encourages | ||||||
| 22 | individual learning styles, develops occupational skills and | ||||||

| 1 | professionalism,
promotes academic growth, and assists | ||||||
| 2 | students in discovering their potential; in addition to
high | ||||||
| 3 | school credit, the Tech Campus, partnered with the College of | ||||||
| 4 | Lake County, allows
students the opportunity to earn college | ||||||
| 5 | credit at no cost; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 7 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 8 | encourage the Lake County High Schools Technology Campus to | ||||||
| 9 | change its name
to the Lake County College and Career Center | ||||||
| 10 | with the goal of changing the mentality of career
and technical | ||||||
| 11 | education and encouraging attending students to pursue careers | ||||||

graduation; and be it further

| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
