HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Delvano
LaValle Jones, who passed away on January 12, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Delvano Jones was born in Chicago to Arthur A.
Jones and Jean Overton-Jones on November 10, 1953; he attended
Corkery Elementary School and graduated from Austin High School
in 1972; he later attended Bradley University, where he was a
member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Epsilon Kappa
Chapter; he regaled his fellow students with his unique wit,
friendliness, and insight; anyone who knew him was very
familiar with his love of conversation; he earned his Bachelor
of Science in Business from Bradley in 1976; he married Laura
Elizabeth Johnson at the Christ Universal Temple in 1986; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Delvano Jones began a
successful sales career with several Fortune 500 companies,
including American Tobacco Company, Pitney Bowes, Xerox, and
World Pay Corporation; there is no doubt that his skills in
communication contributed to his successful sales and
marketing career; and
WHEREAS, Delvano Jones was a lifelong member of Christ
Universal Temple; his strong commitment to his faith was

apparent in his love for his church; he participated in
spiritual retreats and was a proud member of the Hospitality
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Delvano Jones was a devoted husband, father,
brother, and friend; he enjoyed grilling, golfing, sports,
FitBits, and keeping up with the latest television shows,
movies, and audio and visual electronics; and
WHEREAS, Delvano Jones was preceded in death by his
parents; and
WHEREAS, Delvano Jones is survived by his loving wife and
best friend, Laura; his son, Delvano LaValle II; his daughter,
Marielle Nicole; his sisters, Charmine Minette Jones-Sprauve
(Christopher), Jerilyn Frazier (Daniel); his brother, Leron
Jones; his brothers-in-law, Ralph Johnson and Harold Johnson II
(Marilyn); his sister-in-law, Maria Johnson; and his many
nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
mourn the passing of Delvano LaValle Jones and extend our
sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
and loved him; and be it further
