HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate John R. McMurray on the
4occasion of his retirement after 35 years with the Chicago
5Police Department; and
6 WHEREAS, John McMurray joined the CPD in March of 1985 as a
7patrol officer for the 21st Police District, Prairie District;
8he joined the Gang Crime South - Tactical Unit in June of 1988;
9and
10 WHEREAS, John McMurray was promoted to Detective in June of
111990 and assigned to the Area Two Detective Division - Violent
12Crimes and then the Area Five Detective Division - Violent
13Crimes; and
14 WHEREAS, In August of 1998, John McMurray was promoted to
15Sergeant of Police for the 7th Police District, Englewood; he
16then joined the Area One Youth Division, the Area Two Detective
17Division, and the Area Three Detective Division; and
18 WHEREAS, John McMurray was promoted to Unit Commanding
19Officer - Lieutenant of Police in May of 2006 and assigned to
20the 3rd Police District, Grand Crossing; he joined the Area
21Four Detective Division in 2008, the Area Two Detective

1Division in 2009, and the Forensic Services Unit in 2011; and
2 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, John McMurray has received
3numerous awards and recognitions, including the Department
4Life Saving Award, the Blue Star Award, the Lambert Tree
5Honorable Mention Award, the Joint Operations Award, the Crime
6Reduction Award, the NATO Summit Service Award, the
7Presidential Election Deployment Award, the Problem Solving
8Award, the Recognition/Outside Governmental Agency Award, the
9Special Service Award, the Superintendents Award of Merit, and
10the Unit Meritorious Performance Award; he has also received
11many honorable mentions and complimentary letters; and
12 WHEREAS, John McMurray will be remembered as the strong,
13consistent protector of the voiceless and the innocent victims
14of crime; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate John R. McMurray on his retirement after 35
18years with the Chicago Police Department, commend him for a job
19well done, and wish him the best in all his future endeavors;
20and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to John McMurray as a symbol of our respect and
