HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Marquis
Mitchell, who passed away on August 9, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell was born on March 12, 1983 in
Chicago; he received his primary education at Herbert Spencer
Elementary School and his secondary education at William J.
Bogan High School; and
WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell enjoyed playing basketball and
video games, his Air Jordan shoes, taking photos showing off
his "kicks of the day", visiting the barbershop to debate his
favorite pastime, and spending time with his family and
friends; and
WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell worked diligently at Edna's Soul
Food Restaurant; under the tutelage of his grandmother and his
father, he developed excellent cooking skills and wished to
carry on the legacy as a chef; he also worked as a paratransit
driver for 2 years; and
WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell was preceded in death by his
sister, Atlantis Cafe' Andrews, and his grandmother, Edna L.
Stewart; and

WHEREAS, Marquis Mitchell is survived by his parents, Diane
A. Harvey and Melvin Mitchell, Sr. (Chaunee); 3 brothers,
Darryl L. Andrews, Jr., Matthew (LaQuita) Mitchell, and Melvin
Mitchell, Jr. (Irene); a grandmother, Eloise Harvey; a
grandfather, James Walker; 4 aunts, Marguerite Banks,
Katherine Harvey-Stevenson (John), Patricia Harvey, and
Alderman Helen Harris; 7 uncles, Elroy (Vonda) Smith, Lee
Miles, Jr., Marcus M. Miles, Kenny R. Harvey, Louis (Lo)
Harvey, Jr., Jaron Walker, and Roosevelt Walker; his
great-aunts, the Hon. Judge Judy I. Mitchell-Davis (retired),
Wilada Harvey, Alice (Ron) McCammon, Stella Mayes, Bessie
Miles, Edna Nuell, Annie Reese, and Sadie Seals; 3
great-uncles, O.B. Harvey, Samuel W. Mitchell, Jr. (Loretta),
and Eugene Seals, Sr. (Mazora); 2 two nephews, Avante' Andrews
and Monte Mitchell; a niece, Candace Mitchell; his extended
family members, Candace (Leroy) Cox, Armani, Clarence, Malik,
Michael, and Vincent Hastings, Lashawn Smith, and Sharlisa
Smith; and his many dear friends; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of
Marquis Mitchell; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
