2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Christian County |
4 | | Agricultural Fair on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, On April 29, 1924, the Christian County |
7 | | Agricultural Fair was founded by Phil S. Haner, Robert Carlin, |
8 | | Louis Tolliver, and Edward Alton, who rented and held the fair |
9 | | on 40 acres of land located at the west edge of Taylorville |
10 | | from 1924 through 1935; and

11 | | WHEREAS, After watching the Christian County Agricultural |
12 | | Fair grow in popularity over its first decade, the four |
13 | | business partners purchased the fairgrounds for $5,000 in |
14 | | 1935; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, In its early days, the Christian Country |
16 | | Agricultural Fair was home to the most outstanding society |
17 | | horse shows in the Midwest and was the largest society horse |
18 | | show for county fairs in the State of Illinois; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, The Christian County Agricultural Fair also |
20 | | sponsored harness and running races, as the track was |
21 | | considered one of the best in the United States and was a |
