HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, April 5th marks Gold Star Spouses Day for 2022;
3and
4 WHEREAS, Gold Star Spouses Day developed from Gold Star
5Mother's Day, which began in 1936; in 2010, Gold Star Wives Day
6was created to honor the sacrifices made by military spouses;
7the day was later changed to Gold Star Spouses Day to be more
8inclusive; and
9 WHEREAS, In 1947, the gold star lapel button was approved
10by the U. S. Congress; the pin is a gold star on a purple
11background and represents service members who died in combat;
12it is presented to the spouse or next of kin along with the
13national colors; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we declare April 5, 2022 as Illinois Gold Star Spouses Day; and
17be it further
18 RESOLVED, That we express our gratitude to Illinois Gold
19Star Spouses for the sacrifices they have made on behalf of our
20nation; and be it further
