2 | WHEREAS, On July 16, 2015 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 5 | ||||||
3 | United States Marines were murdered and 2 other individuals | ||||||
4 | were wounded at a United States Armed Services recruiting | ||||||
5 | center and a Naval Reserve Facility; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, In recent years, there have been multiple other | ||||||
7 | attacks planned, and at least 8 completed, against United | ||||||
8 | States military members on military sites; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The United States Armed Forces and the Illinois | ||||||
10 | National Guard serve our country with courage and honor and | ||||||
11 | protect the freedom of our nation; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, This country should take any and every measure | ||||||
13 | available to ensure military personnel are appropriately | ||||||
14 | protected against attacks, including but not limited to | ||||||
15 | securing their work areas and recruiting stations; therefore, | ||||||
16 | be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | urge Congress to swiftly promulgate laws that ensure members of | ||||||
20 | the military are adequately armed for their protection, | ||||||
21 | including, but not limited to the arming of military personnel |

1 | at facilities and recruiting stations, enhancing security at | ||||||
2 | military facilities, and providing for any other measure to | ||||||
3 | ensure the preservation of lives; and be it further
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | delivered to the Speaker and Minority Leader of the United | ||||||
6 | States House of Representatives, the Majority and Minority | ||||||
7 | Leaders of the United States Senate, and the members of the | ||||||
8 | Illinois congressional delegation.
