| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Bernice Pillow Higgins on | ||||||
| 4 | the occasion of her 100th birthday; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins was born in Nashville to Lora
and | ||||||
| 6 | Robert A. Pillow on September 22, 1917 and had four siblings; | ||||||
| 7 | and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins attended elementary school and | ||||||
| 9 | high school in
Nashville and graduated from Tennessee State | ||||||
| 10 | University; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins married Julius Higgins on April 5, | ||||||
| 12 | 1941 and they had one daughter, Judith Louise; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins joined Alpha Kappa Alpha | ||||||
| 14 | Sorority, Incorporated in
1945 and is a member of the East St. | ||||||
| 15 | Louis Alumnae Chapter; she has been a member for 72 years and | ||||||
| 16 | has attained the status of Golden Soror; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins is a member of the St. Augustine | ||||||
| 18 | of Hippo Catholic
Church in East St. Louis; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins taught in the Nashville School | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | District for nine years and then East St. Louis School District | ||||||
| 2 | 189 for over
31 years; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Bernice Higgins has led a life filled with | ||||||
| 4 | experiences and has shared her wisdom with others for over 10 | ||||||
| 5 | decades; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 7 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 8 | congratulate Bernice Pillow Higgins on her 100th birthday and | ||||||
| 9 | thank her for the
love and service she has bestowed on her | ||||||
| 10 | community; and be it further
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 12 | presented to Bernice Higgins as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 13 | esteem.
