| 2 | WHEREAS, St. John Neumann Catholic School in Maryville | ||||||
| 3 | strongly supports STEM
education by encouraging students to | ||||||
| 4 | participate on the Scrambled Gears Robotics Team; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Scrambled Gears Robotics Team has | ||||||
| 6 | continuously competed at an international
level and was | ||||||
| 7 | nominated for the Global Innovation Award in 2018 in the FIRST | ||||||
| 8 | LEGO League; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, On February 28, 2019, the Scrambled Gears Robotics | ||||||
| 10 | Team applied for a patent on their
invention of the WaterSpark, | ||||||
| 11 | a hydroelectric generator that uses rainwater to charge small
| ||||||
| 12 | electronics and can be used as an emergency power source | ||||||
| 13 | globally in regions with an unreliable
electric grid; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The patent for the Scrambled Gears Robotics Team's | ||||||
| 15 | WaterSpark became publicly available
on September 5, 2019, and | ||||||
| 16 | the students are continuously working toward new initiatives, | ||||||
| 17 | such as
finding solutions to mobility barriers that prevent | ||||||
| 18 | wheelchairs from going over uneven terrains; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 20 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 21 | we congratulate Coach Karen
Conness and the Scrambled Gears | ||||||
