2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the
death of Donald | ||||||
4 | E. "Don" Van Cleave, who passed away on September 2, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Ray | ||||||
6 | and Agnes Van Cleave; he
graduated from the University of Iowa | ||||||
7 | and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the | ||||||
8 | Korean War; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave worked for Standard Oil Company | ||||||
10 | for over three decades; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave committed himself to a life of | ||||||
12 | service in retirement; he volunteered with PADS,
the Palatine | ||||||
13 | Senior Center, the Palatine Township Food Pantry, Northwest | ||||||
14 | Community Hospital, and
many other organizations and | ||||||
15 | charities; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, One of Don Van Cleave's great joys was serving as | ||||||
17 | the "Banana Man" at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health | ||||||
18 | Care Center in Chicago, where he wheeled a cart of fruit into | ||||||
19 | the rooms of injured
soldiers and gave them bananas, an eager | ||||||
20 | ear, and a sympathetic heart to help them in their healing

21 | process; and

1 | WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Don Van Cleave enjoyed | ||||||
2 | playing golf, walking through the neighborhood,
having a | ||||||
3 | doughnut and coffee with friends, and being around his | ||||||
4 | cherished grandchildren; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave was a member of the First United | ||||||
6 | Church, the First United Methodist Men's
Group, the Palatine | ||||||
7 | Masonic Lodge, High Twelve, and Eastern Star Chapter #585; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave was preceded in death by his | ||||||
9 | brother, Dick; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Don Van Cleave is survived by his beloved wife,
| ||||||
11 | Janet Van Cleave; his sister, Marcia; his two sons and their | ||||||
12 | spouses, Aron and Katy Van Cleave and Ryan
and Victoria Van | ||||||
13 | Cleave; his wonderful grandchildren, Valerie, Veronica, Sadie, | ||||||
14 | and Liam; and many
friends and extended family members; | ||||||
15 | therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
17 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
18 | we mourn the passing of Donald E. Van Cleave, commend his | ||||||
19 | service to the community, and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
20 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
21 | it further
