HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Tameka
4Marie Moore, who passed away on June 27, 2017; and
5 WHEREAS, Tameka Moore was born in Chicago to Patricia and
6Alexander Moore on April 29, 1985; she attended the Jesse Owens
7Community Academy and the Gompers Elementary Fine Arts Option
8School; she graduated from Morgan Park High School in 2003; she
9was baptized at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church in
10Chicago, and in 2010, she became a member of Salem Baptist
11Church of Chicago; she graduated from Southern Illinois
12University in Carbondale in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in
13Marketing; she was affectionately known as "Meechy"; and
14 WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Tameka Moore began
15a successful career in sales and marketing with corporations
16such as PLS and Careerbuilder; in 2010, she made the decision
17to "go natural" by cutting off her chemically relaxed hair; she
18begin documenting her natural hair journey by launching a
19YouTube channel known as "Meechy Monroe"; her channel quickly
20grew viral as tens of thousands of African American women from
21all over flocked to her channel to learn her methods of styling
22and maintaining natural hair; and

1 WHEREAS, Tameka Moore was joined by her older sister and
2they became known as "The Monroe Sisters"; the sisters went on
3to become YouTube sensations with a combined following of
4200,000 subscribers and over 13 million videos views; the duo
5traveled throughout the United States and parts of Europe
6sharing their expertise, tactics, and enthusiasm for embracing
7natural hair; and
8 WHEREAS, Tameka Moore's selfless commitment led to major
9partnerships with some of the largest beauty brands in the
10world to make natural hair care education, products, and
11resources available to African American women; and
12 WHEREAS, Tameka Moore will be remembered for her heart of
13gold and strong compassion for others; she played an active
14role in all the lives she touched and was always willing to go
15the extra mile to inspire and encourage those who need it most;
16and
17 WHEREAS, Tameka Moore is survived by her parents; her
18sisters, Latina Moore, Katara Giles (Richard), Vaughn Colquitt
19(Anthony), and Alexandria Moore; her nieces, Isha Wilkins,
20Laylah Giles, and Anne Marie Colquitt; her nephew, Cameron
21Colquitt; her great-niece and nephew, Armone Wilkins Moore and
22Jeremiah Alex King; her beloved dog, Armani, and an endless
23amount of family, friends, and fans; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3mourn the passing of Tameka Marie Moore, and extend our sincere
4condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
5her; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Tameka Moore as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
