HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Officer
4 Alex Valadez of the Chicago Police Department, who was killed
5 in the line of duty on June 1, 2009; and
6 WHEREAS, Officer Alex Valadez graduated from Brother Rice
7 High School with a 4.0 GPA; he then studied abroad in Spain and
8 graduated from Western Illinois University with a 3.9 GPA;
9 after graduating from college, he joined the Chicago Police
10 Department, becoming one of three siblings to join the force;
11 he planned on pursuing a career as an agent with Immigration &
12 Customs Enforcement; and
13 WHEREAS, After just 3 years as a member of the Chicago
14 Police Department, Officer Alex Valadez built a sterling
15 reputation as an intelligent and brave officer, having earned a
16 commendation from the department and 22 honorable mentions; and
17 WHEREAS, Officer Alex Valadez leaves behind his loving
18 family, which includes his mother, father, brother, 2 sisters,
19 and his pregnant fiancee, who is expecting their son in
20 September of 2009; and
21 WHEREAS, Officer Alex Valadez's dedication and courage

1 will be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow
2 officers, and the citizens of the City of Chicago and the State
3 of Illinois; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
7 Officer Alex Valadez; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the family of Officer Alex Valadez as an
10 expression of our sympathy.
