2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Barbara | ||||||
4 | J. Gross of Jacksonville, who passed away on August 16, 2019; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Barbara Gross was born in Jacksonville to Harriet | ||||||
7 | and Everet Moss on October 5, 1928; she was a lifelong resident | ||||||
8 | of Jacksonville and graduated from Jacksonville High School in | ||||||
9 | 1946; later in life, she graduated from Lincoln Land Community | ||||||
10 | College and continued her education at Sangamon State | ||||||
11 | University; she married William L. Gross in 1949; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Barbara Gross was a dedicated public official; she | ||||||
13 | served as the Morgan County Clerk from 1974 until her | ||||||
14 | retirement in 2010; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Barbara Gross was well respected by her peers and | ||||||
16 | served as President of the International Association of Clerks, | ||||||
17 | Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT); she | ||||||
18 | was passionate about politics and led the Morgan County | ||||||
19 | Democratic Women's Club for many years; she participated in | ||||||
20 | State and national politics; she ran for State Representative | ||||||
21 | and was elected as a delegate to several democratic | ||||||
22 | presidential nominating conventions; she and her husband |

1 | enjoyed representing the Democrats in parades; she was thrilled | ||||||
2 | to be selected as the Grand Marshal of the Jacksonville St. | ||||||
3 | Patrick's Day Parade; in addition to her public service, she | ||||||
4 | was a member of the Central Christian Church; she was active in | ||||||
5 | the Jacksonville community and served on the boards of the | ||||||
6 | Educational Day Care Center, the American Red Cross, the Girl | ||||||
7 | Scouts, and the Jacksonville Library; she volunteered for the | ||||||
8 | Morgan County United Way, the Heart Fund, and the American | ||||||
9 | Cancer Society; she loved her children, grandchildren, and her | ||||||
10 | husband; she especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's | ||||||
11 | athletic events; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Barbara Gross was preceded in death by her | ||||||
13 | parents; and her husband of 61 years, William; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Barbara Gross is survived by her daughter, Gayle | ||||||
15 | (James) Stewart; her sons, David (Barbara) Gross and Tim Gross; | ||||||
16 | her grandchildren, Justin Stewart, Evan Stewart, Jay Gross, | ||||||
17 | Jeffrey Gross, and Joanna Gross; her brother, Warren (Sue) | ||||||
18 | Moss; and her special niece, Linda Hall Lewis; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we mourn the passing of Barbara J. Gross and extend our sincere | ||||||
22 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
23 | her; and be it further
