2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Mira Dedhia of Western | ||||||
4 | Springs on finishing 3rd in the 2017 National Spelling Bee; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The National Spelling Bee began with 291 | ||||||
6 | participants; Mira Dedhia was one of 40 to advance to the final | ||||||
7 | round; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Mira Dedhia set out with a goal of making it to | ||||||
9 | the finals and being on ESPN; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Mira Dedhia is an 8th grader at McClure Junior | ||||||
11 | High School in Western Springs; this is the second consecutive | ||||||
12 | year that she advanced to the national competition; 2017 was | ||||||
13 | the 5th consecutive year in which someone from Western Springs | ||||||
14 | advanced to the national competition; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Mira Dedhia's mother, Lekshmi Nair, competed in | ||||||
16 | the National Spelling Bee from 1988 through 1990; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Mira Dedhia received a cash prize of $20,000 for | ||||||
18 | her 3rd place finish; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |

1 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
2 | congratulate Mira Dedhia on finishing 3rd in the 2017 National | ||||||
3 | Spelling Bee, and we wish her many more successful years; and | ||||||
4 | be it further
