HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Mira Dedhia of Western
4Springs on finishing 3rd in the 2017 National Spelling Bee; and
5 WHEREAS, The National Spelling Bee began with 291
6participants; Mira Dedhia was one of 40 to advance to the final
7round; and
8 WHEREAS, Mira Dedhia set out with a goal of making it to
9the finals and being on ESPN; and
10 WHEREAS, Mira Dedhia is an 8th grader at McClure Junior
11High School in Western Springs; this is the second consecutive
12year that she advanced to the national competition; 2017 was
13the 5th consecutive year in which someone from Western Springs
14advanced to the national competition; and
15 WHEREAS, Mira Dedhia's mother, Lekshmi Nair, competed in
16the National Spelling Bee from 1988 through 1990; and
17 WHEREAS, Mira Dedhia received a cash prize of $20,000 for
18her 3rd place finish; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2congratulate Mira Dedhia on finishing 3rd in the 2017 National
3Spelling Bee, and we wish her many more successful years; and
4be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Mira Dedhia as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
