2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert | ||||||
4 | "Bob" W. Pierson of Orland Park, who passed away on June 6, | ||||||
5 | 2017; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Robert Pierson was born in 1941; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Robert Pierson retired at the end of 2015 after 10 | ||||||
8 | years as chairman of the International Executive Council for | ||||||
9 | the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW); he | ||||||
10 | was a member of Chicago Local 9 for 50 years and served as the | ||||||
11 | its business manager for nearly 20 years; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Robert Pierson was initiated into Local 9 in 1966 | ||||||
13 | after brief stints with the Teamsters and Carpenters unions; he | ||||||
14 | found his home with the IBEW, working as an outside | ||||||
15 | construction lineman with Hecker Electric out of Chicago; | ||||||
16 | during that time, he was part of the original build of the Red | ||||||
17 | Line, the busiest line of Chicago's "L"; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Robert Pierson was hired onto staff at Local 9 in | ||||||
19 | 1980 as a business representative; a year later, he became | ||||||
20 | assistant business manager and held that job for 16 years; | ||||||
21 | among his accomplishments was the organization of 1,100 |

1 | Chicago-area cable television workers into Local 9; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, In 1997, Robert Pierson was elected business | ||||||
3 | manager and he earned a reputation as one of Chicago's most | ||||||
4 | influential labor leaders; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Robert Pierson was also an executive board member | ||||||
6 | of the Chicago Federation of Labor; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Robert Pierson was regarded as a no-nonsense | ||||||
8 | negotiator on behalf of hundreds of City of Chicago employees, | ||||||
9 | including electrical workers in the city's transit, park and | ||||||
10 | water reclamation departments, contractors, and line clearance | ||||||
11 | tree trimmers; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Robert Pierson was the beloved husband of Shirley | ||||||
13 | (Pecho); the loving father of Wendy, Gary (Michele), Chad | ||||||
14 | (Kimberly), and Todd (Lisa) Pierson; the devoted grandfather of | ||||||
15 | Kelsey, Kylie, Kassie, Abby, Sarah, Grace, Gabe,
Faith, and | ||||||
16 | Hope; the dear brother of Donald (Carol), Tom (Donna), and | ||||||
17 | Patty Pierson; the fond son-in-law of Marge Pecho; and the | ||||||
18 | beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
21 | mourn the passing of Robert "Bob" W. Pierson, and extend our |

1 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
2 | and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Robert Pierson as an expression of | ||||||
