HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Norman R. Bobins, a native Chicagoan and
3pre-eminent banker, has served the Illinois banking industry
4for a period spanning five decades; and
5 WHEREAS, Norman Bobins began his career in 1967 at the
6American National Bank and Trust Company in Chicago; in 1981,
7he joined Exchange National Bank, which was later acquired by
8LaSalle Bank; he retired from ABN AMRO and LaSalle Bank
9Corporation as chairman, president, and chief executive
10officer in 2007; and
11 WHEREAS, Norman Bobins currently serves as the
12non-executive chairman of The PrivateBank and Trust Company in
13Chicago and non-executive chairman of the board of Transco,
14Inc.; he also serves on the corporate boards of AAR CORP.,
15Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc., and RREEF America REIT II,
16Inc.; and
17 WHEREAS, Norman Bobins has provided continuous leadership
18and has devoted a lifetime of community service to dozens of
19local, State, and national civic organizations, including
20serving four consecutive four-year terms as a member of the
21Chicago Board of Education, serving as a board trustee of WTTW
22Communications, Inc., where he served as chairman for six

1years, and as a member of the boards of directors of the
2Auditorium Theatre, Brain Research Foundation, The Field
3Museum, Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, Illinois
4Sports Facilities Authority, Navy Pier, Inc., and the Wisconsin
5Alumni Research Foundation; and
6 WHEREAS, Norman Bobins is a Life Member of the University
7of Chicago Booth School of Business, former chairman of the
8board of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, and has served as
9a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council; and
10 WHEREAS, Norman Bobins has received numerous awards
11including the Illinois Bankers Association's 2014 Illinois
12Banker of the Year Award, the 2012 Woodrow Wilson Award for
13Corporate Citizenship, the 2007 Order of Lincoln, the State of
14Illinois' highest award, the 2007 Chicagoland Chamber of
15Commerce's Daniel H. Burnham Distinguished Leadership Award,
16the 2003 University of Chicago Graduate School of Business'
17Distinguished Corporate Alumnus Award, and the 1992 Human
18Rights Medallion from the American Jewish Committee;
19therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22recognize Norman R. Bobins for his outstanding leadership,
23selfless service, generous philanthropy, and willingness to

1help local communities prosper and thrive; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That we congratulate Norman Bobins for his 50
3years of service to the banking industry and in helping to
4promote economic and job growth in the great State of Illinois,
5for serving as a teacher and mentor to so many Illinois
6bankers, and for his unfaltering commitment to community and
7State; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to
9Norman Bobins and his wife, Virginia, at the Annual Conference
10of the Illinois Bankers Association on June 23, 2017 as an
11expression of our esteem and respect.
