2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mayola | ||||||
4 | "May" Smith, who passed away on May 31, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mayola Smith was born on February 11, 1938; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Mayola Smith was an Assistant Career Service | ||||||
7 | Teacher at two Chicago Public Schools, Jens Jensen Elementary | ||||||
8 | and Morris Elementary; she taught for over 25 years, retiring | ||||||
9 | on June 30, 1998; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Mayola Smith was truly committed to the welfare | ||||||
11 | and education of children; she was involved in numerous school | ||||||
12 | functions, parent teacher conferences, and after school | ||||||
13 | programs; she tutored children in reading and helped special | ||||||
14 | education students; she chaperoned school activities; she | ||||||
15 | decorated the school auditorium for the eight grade dances and | ||||||
16 | decorated all the school bulletin boards; she even received an | ||||||
17 | award for her decorating; the staff truly loved her and | ||||||
18 | considered her a trend setter; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Mayola Smith helped any child who was in need, | ||||||
20 | whether at school or in the neighborhood; she enjoyed talking | ||||||
21 | to them about the "Good Old Days"; she was very talented in |

1 | arts and crafts, and her decorating skills were in high demand | ||||||
2 | for wedding receptions, family reunions, and parties; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Mayola Smith loved being around her family, roller | ||||||
4 | skating, and singing and dancing to Stevie Wonder; she was a | ||||||
5 | great problem solver and could often take your difficulty and | ||||||
6 | solve it with laughter and a smile; she was one of a kind and | ||||||
7 | touched the lives of many people, who will always remember her; | ||||||
8 | therefore, be it

9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
10 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
11 | we mourn the passing of Mayola "May" Smith and extend our | ||||||
12 | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
13 | and loved her; and be it further

14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
15 | presented to the family of Mayola Smith as an expression of our | ||||||
16 | deepest sympathy.
