HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Every year an estimated 50,000-65,000
3undocumented students graduate from United States high
4schools, yet only an estimated five to 10% of these students
5are able to attend college due to a lack of access to financial
6aid; and
7 WHEREAS, The DePaul University Undocumented Vincentian
8Allies worked with the Student Government Association to
9address this issue, proposing a referendum to the student body
10which, if passed, would increase tuition by $2 quarterly for
11full-time undergraduate students to be put into a scholarship
12fund for undocumented students; and
13 WHEREAS, DePaul University's student body overwhelmingly
14voted in favor of the proposed referendum, creating a
15scholarship fund of approximately $79,000; and
16 WHEREAS, DePaul University's president, Rev. Dennis H.
17Holtschneider C.M., upheld and supported this student-led
18initiative; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21congratulate and commend the students who led this initiative

1who embody the legacy of St. Vincent de Paul, which calls for a
2commitment to service and the experience of the poor and a
3pledge to build transformative relationships amongst
4marginalized communities and those working towards justice for
5such communities; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to DePaul University's President of Undocumented
8Vincentian Allies, the President of the Student Government
9Association, and University President Rev. Dennis H.
