1		HOUSE RESOLUTION
2		WHEREAS, Over the last three years, the people of Venezuela
3		have taken to the streets in peaceful protests to speak out
4		against the atrocities of the government which has resulted in
5		a devastating food and medicine shortage, political prisoners,
6		human rights violations, increased violence, and the largest
7		street demonstration in Venezuelan history; and
8		WHEREAS, The Venezuelan Supreme Court, in conjunction with
9		President Nicolas Maduro, has wrongfully sought to hinder the
10		progress of the Legislative Branch of the Venezuelan
11		government; and
12		WHEREAS, Illinois is home to many Venezuelan immigrants and
13		descendants and recognizes the political strife facing
14		Venezuelans in their home country; and
15		WHEREAS, We recognize and defend the constitutional rights
16		of Venezuelan people under the Venezuelan Constitution, which
17		are currently being violated; and
18		WHEREAS, As of now, dozens of people have lost their lives
19		due to the Venezuelan government's violent response to peaceful
20		protests and the aggressive involvement of military forces; and

1		WHEREAS, It has been found that numerous protestors are
2		students and that their human rights have been trampled, which
3		is a great cause of concern; therefore, be it
4		RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5		HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6		recognize the people of Venezuela and their entitlement to fair
7		elections, release of political prisoners, freedom of speech
8		and assembly, and amends due for all human rights violations
9		against them.
