HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Mayor Thomas Giarrante is a lifelong resident of
3the City of Joliet and has served his hometown for over 4
4decades; during this time, he has earned the admiration and
5respect of Joliet's residents, fellow City Council members, and
6City Hall staff; and
7 WHEREAS, Thomas Giarrante attended Sacred Heart Grade
8School, Joliet Catholic High School, and Joliet Junior College;
9and
10 WHEREAS, Thomas Giarrante's outstanding record of
11community service began with a 22-year career with the Joliet
12Fire Department, including 16 years serving as President of
13Joliet Firefighters Local 44 and 2 years as Secretary of the
14Police and Fire Board; and
15 WHEREAS, Thomas Giarrante's decades of service as an
16elected official includes 6 years as a Joliet Park District
17Board Commissioner, 3 years as President of the Park Board, 14
18years as an elected Joliet City Councilman-At-Large, where he
19served as Chairman of the Joliet Waterpark Committee, Chairman
20of the Baseball Committee, past Chairman of the Public Safety
21Committee, past member of the Public Service Committee, and
22past member of the Joliet Township Senior Citizen Services

1Committee; and
2 WHEREAS, During his term as a Joliet City
3Councilman-At-Large, Thomas Giarrante was directly involved in
4attracting new businesses and improving the quality of life of
5his hometown with a significant number of development projects
6such as Joliet's 2 world-class casinos, Chicagoland Speedway,
7the CenterPoint Intermodal Center, Route 66 Raceway, Autobahn
8Country Club, the Joliet Area Historical Museum, the west side
9branch of the Joliet Public Library, Splash Station Water Park,
10and Silver Cross Field; and
11 WHEREAS, In 2011, Thomas Giarrante was elected Mayor of the
12City of Joliet; immediately upon taking office, he established
13the Committee to Attract and Retain Business (CARB), a
14committee comprised of 18 local professional and business
15people to assist in maintaining his vision of a strong
16"pro-business" atmosphere; his office door was always open as
17he constantly met with local leaders, members of the business
18community, and everyday citizens who simply needed his help;
19his leadership through difficult economic times restored
20Joliet's financial well being, brought new jobs and retail
21developments throughout the City, and positioned Joliet as one
22of the most business-friendly communities in the Midwest; and
23 WHEREAS, Thomas Giarrante's love of Joliet is only

1superseded by his love and devotion to his family; he has been
2married to Rosemary Giarrante for 53 years; together, they have
33 children, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, who
4will now be the recipient of his affection, time, and
5attention; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8thank Mayor Thomas Giarrante for his leadership and dedicated
9service and wish him success and happiness in the future; and
10be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Thomas Giarrante as a symbol of our respect and
13esteem.
