| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Ina Dews on the occasion | ||||||
| 4 | of her 80th birthday and recognize her commitment to the Elgin | ||||||
| 5 | community; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Ina Dews has sacrificed her time, talents, and | ||||||
| 7 | financial
resources, working to end discriminatory practices | ||||||
| 8 | in Elgin through her
involvement with the Elgin Human Relations | ||||||
| 9 | Commission; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Ina Dews continues the legacy of the late
Reverend | ||||||
| 11 | Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through her leadership and
| ||||||
| 12 | participation in coordinating celebratory events honoring Dr. | ||||||
| 13 | King; she was instrumental in persuading the Elgin City Council | ||||||
| 14 | to rename Route 20 "Martin Luther King Drive"; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Ina Dews served on the Elgin Human Relations | ||||||
| 16 | Commission until February of 2010; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Ina Dews has helped others to understand the past, | ||||||
| 18 | and teach timeless
lessons of courage and endurance through her | ||||||
| 19 | legacy of community
activism, service and responsibility; she | ||||||
| 20 | has served as a role model for
younger generations; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, The City of Elgin has proclaimed March 31, 2017 a | ||||||
| 2 | day of celebration for Ina Dews's 80th birthday; therefore, be | ||||||
| 3 | it

| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 5 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 6 | congratulate Ina Dews on her 80th birthday and recognize her | ||||||
| 7 | commitment to the Elgin community; and be it further
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 9 | presented to Ina Dews as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 10 | respect.
