HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Millions of households in Illinois subscribe to
3services that provide audio and video entertainment, whether
4through a wire-based cable or through a satellite dish; this
5includes audio streaming, video streaming, and many other
6services; and
7 WHEREAS, One proposal for increasing Illinois tax revenue
8include the levying of a 6.25% State sales tax on media
9services that includes audio and video streaming; and
10 WHEREAS, Illinois should not increase taxes on citizens who
11depend on cable TV and satellite services for news and
12entertainment; these news programs are vital to a well-informed
13populace; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16oppose expanding the State sales tax to cover the delivery of
17audio and video services, by cable TV, satellite dish, or other
18infrastructure, to Illinois homes and households; and be it
19further
20 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to
21the Governor of Illinois, the President of the Illinois Senate,
