HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, President Donald Trump is taking steps to fulfill
3his campaign promise to build a wall along the border between
4the United States and Mexico; and
5 WHEREAS, President Trump has suggested that a tariff of 20%
6should be placed on products imported from Mexico to pay for
7the border wall, which would essentially result in Americans
8paying for the wall; and
9 WHEREAS, Mexico is the second-largest export partner of
10Illinois and the third-largest import partner; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13formally invite Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to address
14a joint session of the Illinois General Assembly to discuss the
15proposed border wall, the impact of a 20% tariff on goods
16imported from Mexico to pay for the wall, and the economic
17impact that such a wall and President Trump's policies will
18have on Illinois and Mexico; and be it further
19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20delivered to Enrique Pena Nieto, President of Mexico.
