HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Tom Roate on the occasion
4of his retirement after 33 years as a firefighter; and
5 WHEREAS, Tom Roate began his firefighting career as a
6firefighter in the United States Air Force in December of 1983;
7he was active duty for seven years, retiring from the Air Guard
8183 Fighter Wing, Springfield in 2003; and
9 WHEREAS, Tom Roate was a firefighter for the City of
10Springfield Fire Department for 22 years; he started on
11February 28, 1994 and retired on July 1, 2016 as a Battalion
12Chief; during his time with the Springfield Fire Department, he
13was an active member of International Association of Fire
14Fighters Local 37, holding the offices of Trustee, Secretary,
15and President; and
16 WHEREAS, Tom Roate is an active retired member of Local 37;
17since 2006, he has been the Secretary Treasurer of the
18Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois; he is also the Secretary
19Treasurer of the Federation of State and Provincial
20Professional Firefighters organization, which is comprised of
21Presidents and Secretary Treasurers from all 50 states and
22seven Canadian Provinces; and

1 WHEREAS, Tom Roate was born in Quincy and raised in Barry;
2he married Kim in May of 1984, and they have two daughters,
3Laken (Marc) Smaha, and Colby (Erick) Baumberger; three
4granddaughters, Aurora, Izabella, and Elliot Colby Baumberger;
5and a grandson due in February, Aldo; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8congratulate Tom Roate on his retirement as a firefighter after
933 years of service, and we wish him the best in all his future
10endeavors; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Tom Roate as an expression of our esteem and
13respect.
