| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Tom Roate on the occasion | ||||||
| 4 | of his retirement after 33 years as a firefighter; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Tom Roate began his firefighting career as a | ||||||
| 6 | firefighter in the United States Air Force in December of 1983; | ||||||
| 7 | he was active duty for seven years, retiring from the Air Guard | ||||||
| 8 | 183 Fighter Wing, Springfield in 2003; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Tom Roate was a firefighter for the City of | ||||||
| 10 | Springfield Fire Department for 22 years; he started on | ||||||
| 11 | February 28, 1994 and retired on July 1, 2016
as a Battalion | ||||||
| 12 | Chief; during his time with the Springfield Fire Department, he | ||||||
| 13 | was an active member of International Association of Fire
| ||||||
| 14 | Fighters Local 37, holding the offices of Trustee, Secretary, | ||||||
| 15 | and President; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Tom Roate is an active retired member of Local 37; | ||||||
| 17 | since 2006, he has been the Secretary Treasurer of the | ||||||
| 18 | Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois; he is also the Secretary | ||||||
| 19 | Treasurer of the Federation of State and Provincial | ||||||
| 20 | Professional Firefighters organization, which is comprised of | ||||||
| 21 | Presidents and Secretary Treasurers from all 50 states and | ||||||
| 22 | seven Canadian Provinces; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Tom Roate was born in Quincy and raised in Barry; | ||||||
| 2 | he married Kim in May of 1984, and they have two daughters,
| ||||||
| 3 | Laken (Marc) Smaha, and Colby (Erick) Baumberger; three | ||||||
| 4 | granddaughters, Aurora, Izabella, and Elliot
Colby Baumberger; | ||||||
| 5 | and a grandson due in February, Aldo; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 7 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 8 | congratulate Tom Roate on his retirement as a firefighter after | ||||||
| 9 | 33 years of service, and we wish him the best in all his future | ||||||
| 10 | endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 12 | presented to Tom Roate as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 13 | respect.
