| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Waterborne hazards, including bacteria, toxins, | ||||||
3 | and heavy metals, such as
lead, may exist in plumbing and | ||||||
4 | heating and cooling systems; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The Department of Public Health has encouraged | ||||||
6 | school districts,
prior to testing for Legionella, to implement | ||||||
7 | and develop plans for responding if a
positive result were to | ||||||
8 | occur; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, School District U-46 (Elgin) responded to the | ||||||
10 | presence of Legionella in its
cooling systems by closing its | ||||||
11 | facilities; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Guidance for developing and implementing a | ||||||
13 | comprehensive water quality
management plan in schools does not | ||||||
14 | exist in the State; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
| ||||||
16 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
| ||||||
17 | encourage the Department of Public Health, in collaboration | ||||||
18 | with the State
Board of Education, to make available to | ||||||
19 | schools, guidance for developing and
implementing | ||||||
20 | comprehensive water quality management plans; and be it further

Education are to update the General Assembly | ||||||
3 | with a report on their progress by December
31, 2017; and be it | ||||||

6 | provided to the Director of the Department of Public
Health and | ||||||
7 | the State Superintendent of Education.
