HOUSE RESOLUTION 94
2 WHEREAS, Waterborne hazards, including bacteria, toxins,
3and heavy metals, such as lead, may exist in plumbing and
4heating and cooling systems; and
5 WHEREAS, The Department of Public Health has encouraged
6school districts, prior to testing for Legionella, to implement
7and develop plans for responding if a positive result were to
8occur; and
9 WHEREAS, School District U-46 (Elgin) responded to the
10presence of Legionella in its cooling systems by closing its
11facilities; and
12 WHEREAS, Guidance for developing and implementing a
13comprehensive water quality management plan in schools does not
14exist in the State; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17encourage the Department of Public Health, in collaboration
18with the State Board of Education, to make available to
19schools, guidance for developing and implementing
20comprehensive water quality management plans; and be it further

3with a report on their progress by December 31, 2017; and be it

5 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
