| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, On May 22, 2013, the Chicago Board of Education | ||||||
| 3 | voted to close 50 of the system's underutilized public schools; | ||||||
| 4 | and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Many of those properties can continue to be assets | ||||||
| 6 | for the city and their communities; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, City residents and city leadership have a mutual | ||||||
| 8 | interest in strengthening economic activity and increasing | ||||||
| 9 | economic opportunity for an ever-increasing population; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Chicago Public Schools Advisory Committee for | ||||||
| 11 | School Repurposing and Community Development has created a set | ||||||
| 12 | of guiding principles and a proposed process for repurposing | ||||||
| 13 | schools into constructive purposes quickly and in a way that is | ||||||
| 14 | both timely and financially viable; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, If these properties cannot be repurposed through | ||||||
| 16 | the Chicago Public School system, they should be opened to | ||||||
| 17 | public bidding; therefore, be it

| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 19 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 20 | urge the City of Chicago to begin repurposing the closed public | ||||||

| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
