HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Many veterans in Illinois and across this nation
3rely on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and VA
4facilities for their prescription medication needs; and
5 WHEREAS, Veterans often receive their VA prescription
6medications by mail but may not be able to receive a refill at
7their local pharmacy or VA facility; and
8 WHEREAS, In emergency situations, having veterans wait for
9a prescription to arrive by mail can be unreasonable and pose
10health risks; and
11 WHEREAS, VA health care systems, including the VA NY Harbor
12Healthcare System and VA New Jersey Health Care System, have
13established emergency prescription refill programs whereby
14veterans that are out or almost out of medications may fill
15their VA prescription at certain national pharmacy chains; and
16 WHEREAS, There is a need for a change in federal policy to
17ensure veterans have greater access to their VA prescribed
18medications in emergency situations; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1urge Congress to pass legislation in support of the

3nationwide to ensure that, in emergency situations, veterans
4may receive medication directly from their local pharmacy and
5VA facility including, but not limited to, VA medical centers,
6VA outpatient clinics, and VA community-based outpatient
7clinics; and be it further
8 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9delivered to the members of the Illinois congressional
10delegation.
