Bill Title: Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not be elected to the office of State Senator or State Representative for terms totalling more than 16 years in each house of the General Assembly. Provides that service before the second Wednesday in January of 2019 shall not be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Effective upon being declared adopted.

Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not be elected to the office of State Senator or State Representative for terms totalling more than 16 years in each house of the General Assembly. HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE
CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
this resolution a proposition to add Section 2.5 to Article IV
of the Illinois Constitution as follows:
ARTICLE IV
THE LEGISLATURE
(ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new)
SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS.
A person may not be elected to the office of State Senator
or State Representative for terms totalling more than 16 years
in each house of the General Assembly. Service before the
second Wednesday in January of 2019 shall not be considered in
the calculation of a person's service.
SCHEDULE
This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
Constitutional Amendment Act.
