5 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the | |||||||||||||||||||
6 | electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general | |||||||||||||||||||
7 | election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of | |||||||||||||||||||
8 | this resolution a proposition to amend Article V of the | |||||||||||||||||||
9 | Illinois Constitution by changing Section 2 as follows:

13 | SECTION 2. TERMS
| |||||||||||||||||||
14 | (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall | |||||||||||||||||||
15 | hold office for
four years beginning on the second Monday of | |||||||||||||||||||
16 | January after their
election and, except in the case of the | |||||||||||||||||||
17 | Lieutenant Governor, until their
successors are qualified. | |||||||||||||||||||
18 | They shall be elected at the general election
in 1978 and every | |||||||||||||||||||
19 | four years thereafter.

20 | (b) A person may not be elected to more than two terms as | |||||||||||||||||||
21 | Governor. An otherwise eligible person who has served as Acting | |||||||||||||||||||
22 | Governor or who has filled a vacancy in the office of Governor | |||||||||||||||||||
23 | as provided in Section 6 of this Article is not disqualified |

1 | from being elected to two terms as Governor. This subsection | ||||||
2 | does not limit the number of terms to which a person may be | ||||||
3 | elected to the office of Lieutenant Governor. This subsection | ||||||
4 | applies to each person elected to the office of Governor after | ||||||
5 | the person elected to the office of Governor at the 2006 | ||||||

8 | SCHEDULE
| ||||||
9 | This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being | ||||||
10 | declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois | ||||||
11 | Constitutional Amendment Act and applies beginning with the | ||||||
12 | person elected Governor immediately after the person elected | ||||||
13 | Governor in 2006.
