Bill Title: Creates the Residential Weather Radio Safety Act. Provides that every contractor or manufacturer building a new residence in this State shall install a weather radio within each residence. Provides that "residence" includes homes, apartment buildings, condominiums, multifamily homes, manufactured homes or mobile homes, nursing or sheltered care homes, and veterans homes. Establishes requirements for the weather radios. Provides that violation of the Act is a business offense with a fine of $500 per violation.

1 AN ACT concerning safety.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Residential Weather Radio Safety Act.
6 Section 5. Weather radio requirement.
7 (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the
8contrary, every contractor or manufacturer building a new
9residence in this State shall install a weather radio within
10each residence. As used in this Act, "residence" includes
11homes, apartment buildings, condominiums, multifamily homes,
12manufactured homes or mobile homes, nursing or sheltered care
13homes, and veterans homes. For apartment buildings,
14condominiums, multifamily homes, nursing or sheltered care
15homes, and veterans homes, each unit shall have its own weather
16radio.
17 (b) The weather radios provided by contractors or
18manufacturers shall have the following features:
19 (1) tone alarm activation;
20 (2) specific alert message encoding technology; and
21 (3) public alert standard certification.
22 (c) The installation of weather radios in each residence
23shall not subject the contractor or manufacturer of the

1residence to any liability for the functioning of the weather
2radio.
3 (d) Violation of this Act is a business offense with a fine
4of $500 per violation.
