Bill Title: Creates the Residential Weather Radio Safety Act. Provides that every contractor or manufacturer building a new residence in this State shall install a weather radio within each residence. Provides that "residence" includes homes, apartment buildings, condominiums, multifamily homes, manufactured homes or mobile homes, nursing or sheltered care homes, and veterans homes. Establishes requirements for the weather radios. Provides that violation of the Act is a business offense with a fine of $500 per violation.

AN ACT concerning safety.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
Residential Weather Radio Safety Act.
Section 5. Weather radio requirement.
(a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the
contrary, every contractor or manufacturer building a new
residence in this State shall install a weather radio within
each residence. As used in this Act, "residence" includes
homes, apartment buildings, condominiums, multifamily homes,
manufactured homes or mobile homes, nursing or sheltered care
homes, and veterans homes. For apartment buildings,
condominiums, multifamily homes, nursing or sheltered care
homes, and veterans homes, each unit shall have its own weather
radio.
(b) The weather radios provided by contractors or
manufacturers shall have the following features:
(1) tone alarm activation;
(2) specific alert message encoding technology; and
(3) public alert standard certification.
(c) The installation of weather radios in each residence
shall not subject the contractor or manufacturer of the

residence to any liability for the functioning of the weather
radio.
(d) Violation of this Act is a business offense with a fine
of $500 per violation.
