Bill Title: Amends the Property Tax Code. In provisions allowing 2 or more contiguous townships to form a multi-township assessment district, provides that townships without township assessors may be a part in forming such districts.

1 | AN ACT concerning local government.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
4 | Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by changing | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
5 | Section 2-15 as follows:
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
6 | (35 ILCS 200/2-15)
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
7 | Sec. 2-15. Voluntary establishment of multi-township | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
8 | assessment districts. Any 2 or more contiguous townships , | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
9 | including one or more townships without a township assessor, in | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
10 | any one county, other than townships
provided for in Sections | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
11 | 2-5 and 2-10, may by majority vote
of each board of trustees of
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
12 | the townships, form a multi-township assessment district | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
13 | comprising those
townships. This determination shall be made no | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
14 | later than October 1 of the year
preceding the year in which | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
15 | township officials are elected. If one or more of
those | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
16 | township assessor's offices is vacant, a determination to form | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
17 | a
multi-township assessment district may still be made at the | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
18 | time of that
vacancy. The assessor or assessors remaining in | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
19 | office in one or more of the
townships comprising the | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
20 | multi-township assessment district shall assume the
duties of | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
21 | multi-township assessor until a successor is elected or | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
22 | appointed and
qualified. If there is no township assessor | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
23 | remaining in office at the time or none of the townships have a |

the board of trustees of the multi-township | ||||||
2 | assessment district, as defined in
Section 2-20, shall appoint | ||||||
3 | a multi-township assessor for the unexpired terms
of the former | ||||||
4 | elected township assessors as provided in this Code.

5 | The township boards of trustees shall notify the supervisor | ||||||
6 | of assessments
and the Department prior to December 1 of the | ||||||
7 | year in which they have taken
any action prescribed in this | ||||||
8 | Section.
